Overview & Highlights

Keumsan Restaurant offers a refined experience in modern Korean cuisine, situated conveniently at 8363 Granville St in Vancouver. This intimate eatery specializes in comforting yet innovative dishes that elevate traditional Korean flavors with a thoughtful, contemporary twist. From the moment you step inside, the cozy and warmly lit setting promises a dining experience that feels both personal and authentic, perfectly suited for savoring each carefully crafted dish.

The highlight of Keumsan’s menu is undoubtedly their signature Sot Bap selections—individual stone pot rice dishes that burst with layered flavors and textures. The Flying Fish Roe Sot Bap is a standout, artfully combining raw flying fish roe with pickled radish, buttery scrambled eggs, pyogo mushrooms, seaweed, and a distinct Keumsan aioli, offering a unique umami-rich sensation that dances on the palate. For those seeking seafood delicacies, the Abalone Sot Bap and BBQ Eel Sot Bap provide a sublime taste journey: tender braised abalone and smoky eel, each served with perfectly cooked rice and a velvety soft poached egg, enriching every bite with satisfying creaminess.

Keumsan’s house-made stews also capture the heart of traditional Korean comfort food. The Doenjang Soon Dubu, a non-spicy soft tofu stew featuring thinly sliced sautéed beef, delivers a rich, savory broth that feels like a warm hug on a chilly Vancouver day. Meanwhile, the spicy Korean Army Soon Dubu offers a robust, heartier option with beef sausage, spam, cheese, and baked beans, perfectly balanced to not overwhelm but instead to comfort and satisfy.

Reviews from customers consistently praise the exceptional quality of ingredients and the careful attention to flavor balance. Many diners have expressed delight at Keumsan’s ability to blend the familiar warmth of Korean comfort food with a freshness and sophistication not easily found elsewhere in the city. Patrons appreciate the generous portions and fair pricing, making the restaurant a great value in today’s market.

Service at Keumsan is consistently noted as warm and attentive, enhancing the intimate feel of the small dining space while ensuring that every dish meets the highest standards. Although the restaurant is compact—sometimes causing waits for highly sought-after dishes—this exclusivity only adds to the anticipation and reward of the meal. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends when the kitchen’s specialty offerings like the Steak Sot Bap come into rotation.

Whether you're craving a rich, complex stew or a meticulously plated stone pot rice dish, Keumsan Restaurant delivers an alluring blend of tradition and creativity that will satisfy any Korean food lover looking for both comfort and culinary excitement. It’s a must-visit gem in the Marpole area, perfect for those who appreciate authenticity, bold flavors, and heartfelt hospitality.

It is surprising with all my experiences eating in Vancouver that I have not encountered modern comfort Korean food that is so flavourful and delicious. The quality of the ingredients is way better than the typical Korean restaurants in town. The staff and the restaurant is small but that ensures the standards are met and it is definitely worth waiting in line for. Some dishes were sold out but that just means I will have to come back to try them! South Granville is so lucky to have this new addition.

We came on a Saturday at 5:15 as we had reservations. We ordered the BBQ eel sot bap ($21.95) and the abalone sot bap ($22.95). They each come with a seaweed soup and a soft poached egg. The side dishes are also available for refill. The side dishes were okay. Nothing to write home about. The sot baps were both really delicious. We preferred the abalone one over the BBQ eel one. The abalone was nice and soft not chewy at all. It went well with the egg and the fragrance of the rice. The unagi wasn't too sweet. I liked the crispiness on the bottom of the rice. Overall a satisfying meal. I would come back to try the kalbi

This restaurant was easily one of the most delicious comfort Korean spots I’ve been to in a while! Loved their soondubu and their flavours in all the things we tried. Make sure you order the bbq eel sot bap! The doen jang is also super homey and delicious. The kalbi is flavoured and cooked to perfection, and the Korean steak tartare was a pleasant surprise (in a good way!) overall I can’t wait to come back!

Delicious and traditional new Korean restaurant specializing in individual pot cooked soups and rice. Highly recommend the abalone sot bap, kalbi, and mushroom salad. Yukhoe isn’t the usual style so it’s an acquired taste in my opinion, but the high quality of all the ingredients is obvious. Service is also great. Seaweed soup is on the saltier side. Worth at least a try, but I’d come back just for the buttery abalone sot bap. At the time of this review, they were having an awesome lunch special where you get a scratch and win, and if it’s a winner you can redeem it only for a dinner service - we were lucky to have won a free soon dubu which was very tasty and rich, but we prefer the rice dishes.

Food and service were nice and affordable price for the quality. -Loved the taste of Yukhoe with crunchness on the bottom. -Sot bap was pressure cooked so the rice tasted even better. -Spicy abalone salad was pretty good and not too spicy. -Kalbi was tender and juicy. They recently opened for lunch on the weekend. Will come back for lunch for sure.

As many have said, Keumsan is a great addition to the food scene in the Marpole area. It’s a Korean spot that delivers solid food, generous portions, and really fair prices which is rare these days when everything feels so expensive. Most dishes are under $20, and the value you get for the quality and portion size is honestly impressive. The Doenjang was super filling and comforting, exactly what you want from a hearty Korean meal. It’s the kind of restaurant you can enjoy day-to-day without breaking the bank. The service is warm, and despite the affordable pricing, the food and experience feel cared for. It does get busy, so I recommend making a reservation if you can. Overall, Keumsan hits that hard-to-find balance of great food, good prices, and friendly service, so it’s an easy 5-star from me.

My soup was a bit too salty, but the beef tartare was delicious with great seasoning. The atmosphere was nice and the service was good. Overall, I recommend it.

Reservation recommended. We got the Beef Soon Dubu (spicy) and the Baby Cuttlefish Soon Dubu (non-spicy). The spicy broth was surprisingly not too spicy for a Korean restaurant, so don't be afraid to try it! Everything tasted good and was actually filling. This would be the perfect meal for a cold and rainy day.
